Slumdog Millionaire!

so my dreams finally came true!!! i saw Slumdog Millionaire (i will go ahead and apologize if i misspell 'slumdog' by typing 'slumbdog'...for some reason i happen to always put a b in the title haha) anyways, I have been wanting to see it for a really long time and while i was home for christmas break it was only playing out the fine arts theater in asheville. both times i was about to see it i ended up getting sick...i guess it was destiny :)

so my roommate found out it was finally playing at a few theaters in knoxville and we went tonight to see it! and it was wonderful. definitely one of my new favorite movies. the story was just so touching and really made me think a lot about life. i know for me and the crazy thoughts i have, sometimes i think that i saw or know specific things for a time in the future, and i think that is the power of God at work. He is constantly preparing us for the future, for his plans for us, for his destiny for us.

one of my favorite scenes in the movie was at the very end when Jamal finally embraces Latika for good. He looks at her scar and as he kisses it the scene where she is given the scar rewinds in slow motion. That cinematography was so awesome because it clearly shows how all of her past could now be erased by that one embrace. (sorry if im getting too mushy, i was just really moved) she no longer had to think back to those horrible times in her life, it was as if it had never happened. such pure and searching love! (love covering scars...hmmm...sound a little familiar?!?)

i dont think i can really give the movie any justice by my writing so i wont say much more than this: if you havent seen it yet, go see it! it breaks your heart but completely heals it in a 2 hour period. seeing the way the "slums" of Mumbai were makes me want to jump on a plane right now and fly to the "slums" of anywhere and just help people.

and an added bonus: in keeping with Bollywood style, there was of course an awesome song and dance at the end! :)

as far as movies go, im beginning to have a slight obsession with indie romance movies... I saw Rachel Getting Married a few months ago with a friend and we both loved the feel of the movie, we felt like we were really there, wanting to clap when the people in the movie were clapping, etc. I love movies that can make you feel that way.

And now im off to get some sleep...it is my destiny (atleast for the next 8 hours) :)

"I never forgot. Not for one day. I knew I’d find you in the end. It’s our destiny."
